Benefits of Self Learning & Using Internet for Self Learning

Self-learning is a process in which individuals take initiative, with or without the help of others, in diagnosing their own learning needs, formulating goals, identifying human and material resources for learning, choosing and implementing appropriate learning strategies, and evaluating learning outcomes. Learners exercise a great deal of independence in setting learning goals and deciding what is essential while learning as well as how to approach the learning task within a given framework. It is true that formal education can make you a living whereas self-learning will make you a fortune because it is based on self-motivation.

Self-learning helps a student to learn something more constructively-they are able to retain that information for a longer period of time and it helps them to get a deeper understanding of the topic by exploring it deeply and more on their own. As students do more self-learning, most of them become more assertive learners. They are able to identify themselves as an independent person who is able to learn new things without any specific guidance. This can be a major motivation boost for students. Self-learning allows students to grasp learning at their own pace, concentrating on areas they are most interested in (or want to understand a little better). This helps reduce feelings of frustration, anxiety or boredom that students may struggle within a formal classroom setting. At times in a structured and a more formal teaching set up students aren’t occupied with what they are learning, they absorb less of the information. They study to memorize rather than understand. However the self learning process allows students to pick a topic they are captivated by and excited to learn about, leading to a more effective learning experience.

Utilization of the internet for performing self-learning is very beneficial because it saves the time of students going to the library, finding a particular book, and then grasping information. On the other hand, by using the internet they can learn anything about a particular topic, get information about it from numerous resources, and thus increase their knowledge. Students can get more innovative demonstrations and videos through the internet hence learning more logically.
